As reported last year by SearchStorage.com, EMC has added disk encryption to its PowerPath multipathing software. The new feature, based on encryption intellectual property bought with RSA, will allow automatic encryption of data at rest on Symmetrix and Clariion disk arrays, with centralised management and automation of encryption keys. The new software will become available in May. HP added several storage security products to its Secure Advantage portfolio, including the first OEM rollout of Cisco's SAN encryption switch. It also added the StorageWorks 1/8 G2 and MSL LTO-4 Encryption Kit, which is a small library and key management system meant for SMEs or branch offices, integration between the HP StorageWorks Secure Key Manager and the HP Compliance Log Warehouse, and a free storage security assessment tool on the HP Web site. Elsewhere, Brocade was showing off a planned data security feature for its Data Center Fabric architecture at the RSA conference in San Francisco last week. Hifn introduced a new unified storage OEM bundle consisting of its Unified IP Software bundled with an Express data security acceleration card. Pillar launches HA systems Pillar's storage controllers can now be clustered for active-active failover as part of a new system called the Pillar Axiom 500-MC (Mission Critical). Mellanox introduces FCoE adapter with hardware offload Mellanox Technologies' ConnectX EN adapters now support FCoE traffic with a QoS feature dubbed Priority-Based Flow Control. The dual-port 10-GigE converged NIC also includes support for both TCP/IP stateless offload and Fibre Channel transport in hardware. Atempo revs digital archiving software Version 2.0 of Atempo's Digital Archive for files now offers file deduplication, content indexing and search, and a utility that identifies inactive data ready for archive. The indexing and search capabilities will also be added to Atempo's Digital Archive for Messages in June. Spectra Logic offers free backup monitoring software Spectra Logic's new Media Lifecycle Management software tracks more than 30 pieces of information about a tape cartridge which is linked to the barcode and permanently stored on the medium auxiliary memory chip of LTO tapes. The tool will be free for T-series library users and will ship in April with Spectra's BlueScale 10.2. IBM launches media storage service IBM introduced IBM Management Complexity Factor for Media, a new service that produces a custom plan for media-industry firms looking to improve their storage environments. Reldata adds NAS wizard Reldata rolled out a new NAS wizard that joins the existing iSCSI wizards for its 9240 multiprotocol storage systems and gateways. The software guides storage administrators through storage tasks, such as provisioning iSCSI storage to applications, assigning NAS storage to users and setting security/performance parameters. Atto controller extends life of Apple Xserves Atto's new FastStream Storage Controller can now aggregate multiple Xserve RAIDs together using 4 Gbps. XServes are still limited to 2 Gbps FC natively. BlueArc certified with VMware BlueArc's Titan systems have been certified for interoperability with VMware. The high-performance NAS vendor is now listed on VMware's hardware compatibility list. |
