EMC picks up Configuresoft: Storage News Roundup

Storage news of the week:

EMC Corp. intends to acquire OEM partner Configuresoft Inc. and add the startup's server configuration and change management software to its line of storage and infrastructure products.

EMC has rebranded Configuresoft's Enterprise Configuration Manager (ECM) and Configuration Intelligent Analytics as the as EMC Server Configuration Manager and EMC Configuration Analytics Manager as part of an OEM deal signed last year.

Financial details of the acquisition weren't disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in June. EMC said it would move Configuresoft into its Resource Management Software Group.

IBM adds QLogic FCoE CNAs to BladeCenter

IBM will offer QLogic Corp.'s single chip 8100 Series converged network adapters (CNAs) on its BladeCenter and System x servers. IBM will also sell QLogic's 10 Gbps Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) Pass-thru Module, which provides 14 non-blocking connections between CNAs installed on IBM BladeCenter servers and external 10 Gig Ethernet switches.

Symantec study reveals pressures to be green

Symantec Corp.'s 2009 Green IT Report, a follow up to the Green Data Center report released in late 2007, found that 97% of respondents are at least discussing a green IT strategy and 45% have implemented one. Ninety percent of those surveyed said it was to reduce electricity consumption, 87% said it would reduce cooling costs, while 86% said they felt corporate pressure to be green.

Seanodes ships Exanodes VM Edition Storage Virtual Appliance

Seanodes Inc. has begun customer shipments of its Exanodes VM Edition Storage Virtual Appliance (SVA). The Exanodes VM Edition Storage Virtual Appliance (SVA) lets customers build clustered virtual iSCSI storage-area networks out of VMware ESX servers.

Panasas systems support IBM Power Linux servers

Panasas Inc. and IBM Corp. have partnered to provide support for when Panasas ActiveStor storage systems are configured with IBM Power Systems running Linux. The Panasas parallel storage architecture is targeted at data-intensive applications in industries such as aerospace, energy, finance, government, life sciences, consumer products and manufacturing.

Language Weaver reduces data footprint with Storwize

Language Weaver Inc. has chosen a pair of Storwize Inc. STN-6800 appliances to reduce its storage and associated power, cooling and floor space costs. Language Weaver needed to control costs from increasing data growth, comprised mostly of ASCII and HTML data stored on NetApp FAS6030 filers.
