QStar archiving platform supports OS X

QStar has announced the availability of its HSM Archive Platform for the Apple Mac OS X v10.5 (Snow Leopard) environment. The product offers the management of migration and lifecycle management of data with support for formats, including RAID, optical (Blu-ray) and tape (LTO, SAIT, SDLT) technologies within the Apple environment.

"HSM for Mac provides an excellent platform for storage-intensive applications where Apple dominates," said Steve Tongish, QStar's UK-based global marketing director. "This includes any applications where high-value data and long-term retention are critical to the business such as publishing, graphics design, audio/video editing and medical imaging."

Tandberg Data completes restructuring

Oslo-based tape equipment vendor Tandberg Data has completed the company restructuring triggered when it went into bankruptcy last month. The restructuring comprised the formation of a new holding company – TAD Holdings – in which former part shareholder Cyrus Capital now owns the majority of the business. During the month in which the restructuring took place, Tandberg made its first foray from tape to disk with the launch of the DPS1000 Series virtual tape library (VTL).

The Open University implements Overland Storage D2D2T

The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute has implemented an Overland Storage Ultamus RAID disk array and NEO 2000E tape library at its Milton Keynes site. The organisation installed the products in a disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) configuration to support 100 research staff who carry out database analysis and semantic processing of Web and language content. The Knowledge Media Institute opted for 20 TB of SAS drives with Fibre Channel connectivity and plans to expand with another 20 TB this year.
