This week's storage news:

Drive maker Seagate Technology LLC and chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc. demonstrated 6 Gbps SATA this week at the Everything Channel Xchange Conference in New Orleans. That's double the current bandwidth SATA currently supports.

Seagate expects 6-gig SATA drives to show up in PCs and low-end servers first, with support in enterprise storage arrays to follow late this year or in 2010. The 6-gig SATA drives will be backward-compatible with 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps SATA, and use the same cables and connectors.
