Storage suite provides SRM control over EMC Celerra

Northern has released a storage management suite for EMC's Celerra. The Storage Suite V8 allows IT administrators to manage storage through flexible disk storage quotas, reporting functions, and a user portal that encourages users to be more responsible and economical in their use of storage.

Seagate 2.5-inch hard drive aimed at enterprise servers and arrays

Seagate's Savvio 10K.3 hard drive is a 300 GB, 2.5-inch SAS drive aimed at enterprise servers and storage arrays. The drive, which Seagate claims offers 70% lower power and greater than 60% performance density over traditional 3.5-inch drives. The drive has a SAS 2.0 (6Gb/sec data rate) interface.

According to Seagate, OEM evaluations of the drive have begun, and general product availability is planned for the second half of 2008.

FileTek compliance suite classifies SharePoint data

FileTek's Trusted Edge Desktop Compliance Suite for Microsoft SharePoint adds data classification functionality to SharePoint. The FileTek suite provides a collection methodology that stores unstructured data into the SharePoint repository. Trusted Edge enforces the mandatory categorisation of desktop-generated data from Microsoft Office and other applications, extending SharePoint's control to files stored inside and outside the repository.

Storage expansion systems include RAID 6 support

The NR6 line of storage expansion systems from NetCom USA include RAID 6 support. The units are available in 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB configurations and are housed in 8-bay, 2U rackmount chassis. The systems offer data transfer speeds of up to 400MB/sec. Pricing starts at $4,649 (£2,325).

ProStor ups removable disk space to 500GB

ProStor Systems has increased the space on its RDX removable disk drive to 500 GB native capacity, a 67% increase over the previous capacity of 300 GB. The higher-capacity cartridge is available from Imation and Tandberg Data. The RDX drive is compatible with most backup software.
