The turmoil at the top continues at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) as Scott Genereux, executive vice president and general manager of worldwide sales, marketing, and support has left the company for DataDirect Networks. Former CEO Dave Roberson left HDS six months ago for HP and was replaced by Minoru Kosuge.

A 15-year veteran of HDS, Genereux joined the company in 1991 as a systems engineer. He ran a number of different organisations at HDS including product management, marketing, channels, and U.S. sales management and operations.

Genereux and the new management "were not playing nice together," according to a source close to the company who declined to be named.

Genereux is said to be joining DataDirect Networks as worldwide head of sales. DataDirect recently launched a 1 Petabyte storage system that supports 20 Gbps InfiniBand host connections. Dealing mostly with high performance computing environments, DataDirect claims 3,000 array sales totaling more than 100 PB, including 19 PB last quarter. Analysts describe the company as one of the best kept secrets in the storage industry.

It's rumored that Lewis Winning, vice president of worldwide sales operations has also just left the company. One industry insider remarked: "If I was going into my fiscal fourth quarter I would hate to lose my head of sales operations and general manager of worldwide sales."

HDS did not return calls for comment by press time.
