Barracuda offers VMware host support with backup service

Barracuda Networks Inc., announced this week that its Barracuda Backup Service will include VMware host support, which the company said will allow customers to quickly backup and restore guest virtual machines.

company said v4.2 of its backup service supports physical and virtual backups and, when that functionality is combined with VMware host support, customers can recover virtual servers from the cloud or another server during disaster recovery or business continuity scenarios.

Barracuda Networks supports VMware ESX 4.0x and 4.1x, VMware ESXi 4.0x and 4.1x, VMware ESXi 5.0x, as well as VMware vCenter Server 4.0x, 4.1x and 5.0x, according to the company. According to the company, customers with the service’s “Energize Updates” subscription can send deduplicated images of virtual servers offsite for disaster recovery purposes.

The Barracuda Backup Service includes a one-time purchase of Barracuda Backup Server hardware -- starting at $999 -- as well as an “Energize Updates” subscription, which start at $199 per year, the company said.

According to the company, the new version of its backup service is available to current customers with the updates subscription. 

With that subscription, the backup server also supports Microsoft Windows, Exchange, SQL Server and HyperV, the company said.
