Storage networking vendors Brocade, Emulex and QLogic separately said they support the approved standard, which the FCIA said will let customers preserve their 4 Gbps and 8 Gbps FC switches and HBAs and avoid the necessity of forklift replacements. The group said 16-gig FC will be auto-negotiated for backward compatibly to 8 Gbps and 4 Gbps so customers can gradually migrate to the higher bandwidth products.
Dot Hill launches 10 GbE iSCSI storage
Dot Hill Systems Corp. introduced the Dot Hill AssuredSAN 3400 Series iSCSI SAN that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE). Dot Hill is currently shipping two-port systems, with four-port systems expected by the end of the year. The two-port systems are the AssuredSAN 3420 (2.5-inch SAS drives) and 3430 (3.5-inch SAS drives.) The systems are available through Dot Hill OEM partners, and under the Dot Hill brand through its channel partners.
TwinStrata goes appliance route for DR
TwinStrata Inc. is making its CloudArray software available as an appliance. The CloudArray SAN appliance is a 2U rack mountable enclosure available in two configurations. One includes 6 TB of configured RAID 5 storage for local copies and cache with two Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports. The larger configuration has 12 TB of RAID 6 storage and four GbE ports, or two GbE ports and one 10 GbE port.
ExaGrid supports IBM AS400, Veeam Backup and Replication
Data deduplication backup vendor ExaGrid Systems Inc. has added support for Veeam Software Corp.'s Veeam Backup and Replication application for VMware and the IBM System i platform (AS400 or iSeries).
NetApp adds Atto to partner program
Atto Technology Inc. has joined the NetApp Alliance Partner Program. The partnership with ATTO gives NetApp customers the ability to connect Mac OS X servers and workstations through NetApp storage through Atto host bus adapters.
Storage Networking Industry Association updates green storage spec
The Storage Networking Industry Association Green Storage Initiative (GSI) has released the second draft of its Storage Power Efficiency Measurement Specification, which adds active power measurement to the spec. For online storage there are six additional metrics – the traditional "four corners" tests for random and sequential read and write workloads – plus two mixed workloads. There are two streaming workload tests for removable media.
