ANSWERED September 2008:
The best solution here would be to use a high-availability solution, such as Neverfail, DoubleTake or Marathon. This would give a full live/live or live/passive system where the backup server would be able to take over on the failure of any component of the active server. I would, however, not recommend trying to go for five minute snapshots, as you run the risk of not knowing where any transactions have got to. However, standard backup software from the likes of Symantec, CA or EMC would provide such a capability. Finally, the question has to be asked why you are running a production Oracle server with direct attached storage? If you go down a SAN route, then high availability can be built in at the storage level, and the issue of having dual storage systems becomes less of an issue at the production/backup server level - only at the overall storage level.
